In early August, Google acquired Instantiations, a company known for its focus on Eclipse Java developer tools, including GWT Designer. We're happy to announce today that we're relaunching the following former Instantiations products under the Google name and making them available to all developers at no charge:
-
GWT Designer
Powerful Eclipse-based development tools that enable Java developers to quickly create Ajax user interfaces using Google Web Toolkit (GWT) -
CodePro AnalytiX
Comprehensive automated software code quality and security analysis tools to improve software quality, reliability, and maintainability -
WindowBuilder Pro
Java graphical user interface designer for Swing, SWT, GWT, RCP, and XWT UI frameworks -
WindowTester Pro
Test GUI interactions within Java client rich applications for the SWT and Swing UI frameworks
Now that these products are available again, we hope you’ll start using them within your GWT projects. Meanwhile, our next step is to more deeply unify them into the GWT family of tools by blending the fantastic Instantiations technology into the Google Plugin for Eclipse (GPE). So, there’s much more to come, including things we’re pretty sure you’ll like, such as UiBinder support in GWT Designer.
You can download any of the tools from the GWT download page. If you have questions or comments we’d love to hear from you. The best place to discuss the tools above is at http://forums.instantiations.com. As always, continue to discuss GWT and GPE at the main GWT Group.
We would love to stay in better touch with you as we have more news about how we are integrating the Instantiations products into the Google Web Toolkit suite. Sign up if you’d like to receive email updates on these products and other developer tools.

After the acquisition I was just waiting for the day. All I can say is, Thanks.
This is great news! These tools are fantastic and well worth the previous price.
GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!!!
Wonderful!!!!
Is there any news on a UiBinder compatible version of this tool?
WOW !!! That's really great! Yesterday i have trouble in Java with cartesian product of sets. I googled one time and what helped me? Google Guava Library with Sets.cartesianProduct from collections package ! Now the great tools like Spring Roo with GWT enabled, and free tooools! AWESOME!
Very nice!
The far best tool available to Java GUI now is free!
We really need this "Design" tab in eclipse on the ui.xml files... Would be so much more powerful because we would not even to edit manually what the designer is creating... just by adding some @UiFields, we would be done.
Thanks so much. I only had a few days left on my trial activation.
words cant express the wonderful google made
Actually, UiBinder is in the menu but it fails with the error message:
"Unable to open file /templates/Composite.jvt"
from com.instantiations.designer.gwt.UiBinder
Ahh, I just bought it... Any chance I can get a (partial) refund ?
Awesome stuffs..Thanks Google!
@pjulien, the UiBinder functionality is still in Beta, so expect some sharp edges. That said, we are rolling out an update to fix that particular issue shortly.
@Chris thanks
Thanks! We've been thinking about getting a license for WindowTester (SWT) for a while now; guess that decision is a lot easier now :-)
You have made my day. Please buy whole Java!!!
OMG. That was the best news today. Thank you Google, I am very happy now!
Thank you so much
Great news!
greate news!!!
greate news!!!
Fantastic news!
"Please buy whole Java!!!" I do agree with that, it would have been very nice if Google instead of Oracle had bought Sun. Perhaps Google could buy Oracle?
The CodePro AnalytiX
"sample report"[1] have the wrong format. It is a iframe with the google code header and navigation menu.

Great news, the tools are extremely good, anyone would pay for them, but now they are available at no cost, this will boost development.
Great move by Google.
Kudos to Google! Appreciate your commitment to whole world's developer community. Thanks much and i don't know how to thank you more!
Great news!!! Thanks Google
That's fantastic. Thanks!!!!
Oh thank goodness. I have used these tools for over 6 years and adored every moment of using them. They were always well worth the $$$ but the cost made it difficult at times to get management to justify getting licenses for interns and more casual users. Now that the cost barrier is gone I suspect serious Eclipse UI development will have a much better basis. The lack of a good UI tool was really the one serious achilles heel. Thanks so much Google.
great!! thanks.!!
Thanks Konstantin, Thanks Eric , and thanks Google
GREAT STUFF!!!
Hare Google!
This is the end of netbeans?
Super !
This is awesome, and will help GWT developers to be more productive.
This tools looks great!!
I don't know if I could post this message here
Unfortunately I get an error when I open entrypoint class in GWT design more. I am using Eclipse 3.5 and GWT 2.0.4
the error shown is
WindowBuilder internal error
WindowBuilder encountered unexpected internal error. Please contact support.
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.eclipse.jdt.core.dom.AnonymousTypeDeclaration2
Yes another useful application. Thank you GOOGLE.
CUSTOM WEB DESIGN
thank you so much! this is awesome!
thank you so much! this is awesome!
Thanks Google! I hope you buy GXT next :D.
Google, огромное спасибо
Congratulations on a great acquisition and for providing these fantastic tools for free. This is very exciting news indeed and will certainly expedite the acceptance of GWT as the preferred development framework for building AJAX applications. I'm looking forward to what lies ahead!
Google indeed has taken software development into a whole new level. And it's FREE!
Thanks.
I use Eclipse when I have to, but I much prefer Intellij IDEA... why not have plugins for the major IDEs instead of just Eclipse?
Thank you! I've been relying on these tools for years. I hope the stellar quality and responsiveness of the Instantiations team are maintained despite the price.
Thank you. This is awesome!!!!
Thanks Google!
Awesome. Been using their stuff for years. Anything comparable in the .NET world has gone up in price and is more than a WBP license was which is good for more.
One thing that i didn't see was the tool to build Eclipse Help. Is that tool gone?
@Douglas Bullard
Why no IntelliJ? IntelliJ is just an IDE. Eclipse is far more than an IDE. It is in fact an entire framework for building plug-in applications. Building tools for Eclipse like the ones Instantiations makes is easier with Eclipse. Eclipse is the most popular IDE around. Above all else, with Eclipse, "The price is right." ---> Free.
thank you Google. Great move for the Java and GWT community.
Thank you Google.
A very googley move. This is simply wonderful and making UI development a lot easier. Now, if you make the source available and submit the tools as Eclipse projects, I could kiss you ;-)
great news, you gotta start loving google
now the only thing left would be the complete swing api on gwt.
i was waiting for this day............finally today morning i saw gwt designer in google downloads .........Thaks to google !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i tried GWT RemoteService Wizard tutorial and found one small error in line
target.setServiceEntryPoint(GWT.getModuleBaseURL() + "/PersonsService");
when i removed / from "/PersonsService" everything worked fine ..........
Now I think, I have to think about switching from Netbeans...
Thank you, Google. I love you.
Awesome!!
Thanks to Google..
Woooooooo huooooooooo!! Wish Google acquire Microsoft too someday...
Thanks a lot..CodeAnalytix was the tool i needed , and now its free.. great move by google..
Could you guys please provide an off-line version of the docs like you did for app-engine for those of us who don't have 24/7 access to the net?
And if you do respond to this post could you guys let me know?
please?
I'm having a problem installing the GWT designer into eclipse 3.5 galileo...the installation hangs at 5%, anyone know how I can overcome this?
Just curious - will Google be making the source for these tools available as well?
Thanks,
Jim
Thanks google
Eclipse, here I come
cool
Wow! This is awesome news. Having a readily available drag/drop GUI designer for web dev't with GWT is a major leap forward.
Great News
While this is useful to prototype a UI quickly, I have seldom used this in large production quality web 2.0 apps.
What I would like to see is
- better support for Chrome. Its ironic, out of IE, FF and Chrome, the latter is the one that always has issues.
- A developer plug-in for Chrome on Linux.
- Fix the developer plugin on Windows (crashes when page takes a
while to load)
I still can't download WindowBuilder Pro these days, the link is broken, please check.
Thank you so much
Its great to see that people are sharing quite profitable information with each other and now we can move our selves to a new era.

Nice Blog. Web Development Services can benefit from knowledge and skills in many areas .
Its really great Blog. Our Web redesign services cost is based on the research that goes into an effective design and the award-winning looks we create.
please please (please) make better tutorials , with videos&source files (and comments inside them) too .
it is just impossible to learn new things when you get about 16 (or so) steps for simple stuff like bindings .
also, try to make everything easier there , yet let it have all the special features .
when Google Web Toolkit suite will be released
Hello!
Urgent!
Both GWT Designer and WindowBuilder Pro cannot be downloaded!
The followed downloading url does not work!
http://code.google.com/javadevtools/wbpro/installation/updatesite_3.6.html
Can anyone tell me the difference between GWT Designer and WindowBuilder Pro? i see that windowbuilder has stuff to create GWT applications, so does it lack anything that GWT Designer has? In other words if i have installed WindowBuilder do i still need to install GWT Designer aswell?
Thanks
to Matthew: i think that it is about the same for now. however, since it got merged with other tools , and since google now works with it, it might be better to install window builder , so that you will enjoy any future developements (since the previous update website probably won't work for GWT builder alone) ... of course, it's just a guess.
anyway, to the google people: please , create a better integration with window builder to also support android GUI builder . the one that eclipse has now is quite minimal in about everything.
it might also be wise to be able to show the preview on real size of multiple target screens (of cellphones and tablets) to have a glimpse of how it looks there, without the actual need to re-install the app on the android emulator for every single tiny GUI change...
gae eclipse plugin can't sync working war 。
Is this free only for developers? What if I sell my software? Is there price? What is the price? Please help me someone who knows the subject. This is very important for software developers.
is it possible to provide installations packages for offline installation? please! in enterprise environment often there isn't internet available.
I'm so excited about your gift for the Java programmers of the world! Thank you very much Google from Kaliningrad's programmer of Russia!
@Lance Feagan
It wasn't always the case, but there is a free version of IntelliJ IDEA now
http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/free_java_ide.html
Just because more people use eclipse, doesn't make it a better IDE.
IDEA is regularly voted the best Java IDE.
http://blogs.jetbrains.com/idea/2011/01/intellij-idea-wins-toy-award-from-infoworld/
However, I've always thought that the Netbeans editor was the best free Java GUI editor.
WindowBuilder seems set to take that though.
Its a shame it isn't made as a plugin for all the other IDEs though -IDEA first please :D
Its a great news. Agreed with duduzerah. Thanks for lifetime.
I've got to agree with SeuAndré. Any chance of an offline installation??
